Should you require to cancel your reservation, you must let us know before 1st Nov of that year, allowing us to re-sell the rooms and in this instance any moneys paid will be refunded. Reservations cancelled after this date will not be eligible for a refund.

4.2 Cancellation due to Severe Weather – We appreciate from time to time severe weather conditions such as the heavy snowfalls experienced in 2010 may mean that it is difficult to travel. Weather events are out with our control but are covered by most travel insurance policies and as such we advise all of our guests to ensure they are appropriately insured for unforeseen circumstances such as these.

4.2.1 A816 Landslide
– (T&C last updated 7th November 2023 rev 6)  On Saturday 7th October 2023 on the main A816 route from Ardfern to Lochgilphead there was an unprecedented landslide (OSGR 83115 04717). This has had a major impact on the village of Ardfern, the wider Craignish Peninsula, our community and businesses including The Galley of Lorne Inn. Originally within a few days of the landslide it was envisaged that it would take 4 weeks to clear. Later indications were that it is likely to be open by mid to late November, however today we have learnt that it is now most likely to be mid December before we have a direct route to Lochgilphead. Whilst we appreciate this is a major inconvenience as much to our guests (especially those approaching from the South) as it is to ourselves, there is a detour in place via Oban. As such no request for cancellation / to waive cancellation fees will be entertained. Our cancellation policy remains as detailed in 4.1. The landslide and subsequent diversion is as much out of our control, as it is out of control of guests. Furthermore, diversion signs are in place indicating the A816 being closed north of the turn off to the village Ford along the route from Lochgilphead. If you choose not to take the detour and not fulfil your reservation, that is your parties decision. Such instances may well be covered travel insurance policies. Therefore, we advise all of our guests to ensure they are appropriately insured for unforeseen circumstances as are presently being experienced.

4.2.2 A816 Collapsed Bridge at Kilmelford – (T&C last updated 2nd November 2023 rev 7)  On Thursday 19th October 2023 on the main A816 route from Ardfern to Oban, a bridge collapsed just south of the Cuilfail Hotel in the village of Kilmelford (OSGR 84921 13065). This cut off any direct access to Oban. It was planned that a temporary metal bridge would be installed by Wednesday 25th October 2023 allowing traffic directly from Ardfern to Oban and vice versa. However, it was decided that the bridge required to be rebuilt. As of Saturday 21st October 2023, an additional diversion had been made available to cars and light vehicles only. This ran past Kilmelford fire station and exits back onto the A816 at Melfort House. This diversion was under 24 hour convoy. On Tuesday 1st November the bridge was reopened with a weight restriction of 3.5 tonnes. By Thursday 3rd November 2023 this weight restriction was lifted, and now vehicles up to 44 tonnes (maximum allowed on UK roads) can use the bridge. As such it is not envisaged that it will be necessary to make any further revisions to this issue as the route to Oban is now fully open.

4.2.3 When Will Cancellation Fees Be Waived Within The Cancellation Period?
– (T&C last updated 16th October 2023 rev 1)  As any such events are completely out of our control, we will only negotiate cancellation fees being fully or part waived, or bookings potentially being rescheduled if The Galley of Lorne Inn and the village of Ardfern is completely cut off from the outside world (i.e. no roads whether A, B or C categories, diversions, forestry tracks or private land used for temporary diversions etc. are closed to the village).

4.2.4 Automated Welcome Email
– (T&C last updated 29th October 2023 rev 3)  All guests receive a welcome email 5 days before arrival date (only if the correct email address was supplied at the time of booking). Within this email there are various useful pieces of information. In addition our terms of business / cancellation policy is highlighted within the welcome email with a link to this page and states the following: “WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU READ OUR CANCELLATION POLICY SO THAT IF IN THE EVENT IT IS NECESSARY THERE ARE NO MISUNDERSTANDINGS” We (as in The Galley of Lorne Inn) cannot be held responsible if a guest chooses not to read our Terms and Conditions. We strongly suggest that you use such apps as Google Maps in order to be abreast of the current road situation. We cannot be up to date with everything that may have happened on any road leading to ArdfernGiven our transparency and detail covering severe weather events within our Terms and Conditions, we will uphold our terms of business and cancellation policy without exception.

4.3 Cancellation due to Covid-19
 – If you are unable to travel for your booking due to Government Tier or Travel Restrictions, a further lock-down or you have tested positive for Covid-19, our normal cancellation policy applies and again we ask that you do not book unless you are appropriately insured for eventualities such as these.

4.4 What if you have to cancel?  In the event you cancel your booking inside the cancellation period we will charge your card used to secure the reservation and attempt to fill your room. If your room cannot be filled, the hotel will not make a refund to your credit or debit card. In the event of very short notice we will cancel your room(s) and lower the price on line in an attempt to resell. If we successfully resell we will refund the amount received from the booking less any commissions that The Galley of Lorne Inn are liable for if the cancelled room(s) are resold via a third party such as Booking.com or Expedia, where commission payable by ourselves is typically 15% of the sale price (can be more).

N.B. This does not apply for New Year Package Reservations, please see our policy above.

Please be aware that if you decide to cancel within our chargeable cancellation period, you are responsible for cancelling your reservation IMMEDIATELY via email if you have booked directly with ourselves or via your booking third party (Booking.com, Expedia etc.)

4.5 What if you have to leave early?  If you decide to shorten your stay whilst already staying with us, you must inform us immediately and we will attempt to fill your room(s) for any nights you will no longer be staying with us. When you check-in you will be required to pay for your accommodation costs in full for the original booking value. Upon curtailment of your reservation we will also require any extras such as food, drinks, supplements etc. that may have been added to your room to be settled before departure. If we mange to re-sell any nights that you have not stayed with us, we will refund any room revenues obtained for these nights to your credit or debit card (We may have to get in touch for card details all dependant upon the site you originally booked by. Please note that this is most likely to be less than the price you have paid as we will more than likely have to discount the price for the room in order to have any chance to resell your room(s) at short notice. Also please note that the amount refunded will only be the total amount we resell the room for if booked through our own website as we pay no commission fees for bookings on our website. If your room is resold through a third party such as Booking.com, Expedia, Hotels.com, AirBnB etc., the amount refunded will be the reduced selling price less commissions payable to third party sites. This percentage of commission is generally 15%, but can be higher.

4.6 What if I have to cancel and I have a voucher?  If you have booked with us on a voucher from Itison, 5pm, Groupon or other voucher site and have to cancel within the cancellation policy detailed on your voucher, we are not obliged to re-arrange your stay and your voucher will be invalidated.  Occasionally at the management’s discretion, we may be able to re-arrange your booking but this will be looked at on a case by case basis and is in no way guaranteed.  If in the event we agree to re-schedule your booking for a later date, any supplements applicable on the original booking will still be charged as well as any new additional supplements for the re-arranged dates.

4.7 If you wish to shorten your stay prior to arriving the cancellation policies as shown above come into effect.

4.8 Bookings made on the day of arrival are non-refundable, and are subject to the standard cancellation terms.
